Small liposuction is the removal of small fat cell collections in a localized area of the body. Small liposuction is usually used to remove residual fat after a larger procedure or for minimal removal around the abdomen and hip areas. Small liposuction procedures are performed under a local anaesthetic.

Before the procedure begins a local anaesthetic will be applied to the treatment area in order to numb any discomfort associated with the procedure. The Doctor will make a small incision in the selected area and will use a high vacuume structure to remove the fat cells in the selected area. After a bandage or garment will be applied to wrap the skin and minimize the swelling. The procedure will permanently remove fat cells from the treatment area. The procedure is only performed on smaller areas of localized fat, therefore, small liposuction can not be used to treat patients with great volumes of localized fat.

Small liposuction procedures are very beneficial because patients will have a smaller recovery period compared to other procedures and in most cases will be able to return home the very same day. It is very beneficial for patients who have localized fat deposits that are genetically inherited and are non-responsive to dieting and exercising. There is also a smaller risk of infection associated with the procedure because it is smaller than regular liposuction procedures.

Patients may develop cellulite or loose skin as a result of a small liposuction procedure. Patients may also experience small scars, brusing, bleeding, infection, numbness or reduced sensation in the affected areas. Patients will also need to wear a support garment for a select period of time after the procedure.
