Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non evasive procedure that uses a special sandblasting tool to revitalize and resurface the skin. Microdermabrassion is a treatment that can be used on the face, neck, chest and hands. Rough grains are used to buff away the surface layer of the skin leaving it looking cleaner, younger and fresher.

During the procedure, a diamond wand used to exfoliate the top layers of the skin (epidermis). A suction technique is then used to remove the excess dead layers of skin. The procedure will slowly remove the stratum corneum which is the top layer of skin that acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin cells. By removing the stratum corneum, the body will interpret this as a injury and will quickly rush to replace the skin cells with with healthy skin cells. The removal of the strarum corneum will also allow for better absorbtion of skin products.

Microdermabrasion proves to reverse the effects of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, shallow acne scars, uneven skin tone, blackheads, whiteheads and pigmentation (brown spots). Microdermabrasion will also stimulate collagen production which will improve the skins healthy glow. The skins surface is significantly improved by removing the skin cells allowing the new skin to appear and feel healthier.

Patients can expect to experience some mild swelling and redness approximately 1 hour to 2 days after the treatment. Repeated treatments of microdermabrasion can influence how the skin grows and can remove deeper blemishes over time. The procedure will normally take about 20 to 30 minutes and usually be followed by a short treatment with creams.
