How Laser Hair Removal works
Many patients describe the Laser Hair Removal treatment as feeling like a series of pinpricks hitting the skin. The majority of our patients are able to tolerate this sensation without needing any drugs to subdue the pain. The skin may also turn pink and/or red for a few hours or up to a day following the treatment. Many patients will have to undergo repeated treatments, since the hair follicles are only affected in the early growth period.
Since some follicles may be dormant (not growing) at the time of treatment, patients must repeat the Laser Hair Removal treatment in order to ensure that all hair follicles are destroyed during the early growth period. Following the Laser Hair Removal, patients may still see hair, however this hair may already be dead and will eventually fall out. Laser Hair Removal is more effective, as plucking, waxing or shaving these hairs may simply change the growth of the hair follicle, providing temporary relief until the hair grows back in.
