Fat injections provide a safe method of extracting fat cells from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and injecting it into the face to correct signs of aging. The procedure is very natural since the extractions are taken straight from the body. Patients will typically see the disappearance of wrinkles and lines and will have a younger and smoother appearance.

After the donor and recipient sites are cleansed and treated, a local anaesthesia is applied to both treatment areas. The fat is drawn from the donor area (which will be the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or elsewhere) using a syringe with a large needle that is attached to a suction device. The fat is then prepared and is injected into the recipient site (on the face) with a needle. A dressing may be applied to the treatment area to protect against infection.

Fat injections are extremly beneficial in correcting sunken cheeks, laugh lines between the nose and mouth and correction of skin depressions or indentations. Fat injections can be used to minimize facial wrinkles and enhance lips. Fat injections can also be done in conjunction with other medical procedures such as a face lift. Patients will rarely experience any type of reaction because the procedure is very natural and extractions are usually taken straight from the body.

Patients can expect to experience some swelling, brusing and redness in the donor and recipient sites. These reactions can also depend on the site and location of the area. Patients are also expected to stay out of the sun until the redness and swelling subsides which will usually take about 48 hours or longer. Some patients may develop an infection from the procedure, however, this can be cleared with proper perscribed medicine.
